How Does an IPTV Encoder Work? From Video Source to Stream
An IPTV encoder sits between a video source and a streaming workflow. It captures the source, compresses the video and audio, then sends the resulting stream to the next part of the distribution system.
Step 1: Capture the source
The encoder receives a source such as HDMI, SDI, a camera or another compatible video output. The input must match the encoder's supported signal format.
Step 2: Compress video and audio
The encoder uses a codec to compress the signal. It controls parameters such as resolution, frame rate, bitrate and keyframe interval to create a practical stream.
Step 3: Package and transmit
The encoded data is packaged using a streaming protocol and sent to a server, CDN or other destination. The exact protocol depends on the architecture and required latency.
Step 4: Playback
A compatible player receives the stream, buffers a small amount of data and decodes it for display. Network quality, server capacity and player compatibility all affect the final viewing experience.
